Join us Friday, October 14th for a fun community contra dance! Gainesville’s gifted JoLaine Jones-Pokorney will be calling the dances and The Runaway Biscuits will be playing live tunes.
Tallahassee community contra dances have resumed at the Senior Center on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month! Contra dancing is a beginner-friendly American folk dance for all ages. It shares many moves with square dancing (such as swing your partner and do-si-do) and is danced in long lines to live music. The bands and callers vary each night. No dance experience is needed and you don’t need to bring a partner. Those new to contra dancing are strongly encouraged to come by 7:15, when a Beginner Lesson will be taught, and as dances are taught in more detail early in the evening. Wear comfortable clothes and flat shoes.
Starting at 6:45 we will also hold our annual membership meeting. Schmooze with all the Danceboard members, snack on pizza, help us adhere to our Bylaw requirements and discuss any issues you think are noteworthy!
Admission cost: $10 for Adults, $9 Seniors over 50, $6 for Students, Free for Kids under 12
Admission is payable by cash, check, or card at the door. Newcomers get in to your 2nd dance free!
