A little more about each event:

Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then, a Brent Green Animated Feature

Based on a true story and expressed through hand-drawn imagery, live action, live music, and stop-motion animation, Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then tells the tale of a man named Leonard who fought against reason and nature to create a miracle that would save his wife from a terminal illness. The film often serves as a backdrop to live music performed by the director and his band, with sequences contributed by award-winning American filmmaker Jem Cohen. Romantic, darkly humorous, and philosophically challenging, Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then contemplates everything from the power of human will to the existence of God.

The 17th Annual Animation Show of Shows

The Animation Show of Shows is a traveling selection of the year's best animated short films, curated and presented by Acme Filmworks founder, Ron Diamond. It began in 1998 with the aim of showing the most original short animated films from all over the world and presenting them at the major animation studios in order to inspire their animators and directors.

Spike & Mike’s Sick and Twisted Festival of Animation

We’re very excited to bring Spike & Mike’s to Tallahassee. For over 30 years, Spike & Mike have curated the best of the best in edgy pop culture animation. Ever heard of a little show called South Park? Beavis and Butthead? Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Mike Judge have all been featured in past Spike & Mike collections-- not to mention John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer of Pixar. The traveling festival began as “filler” at rock concerts and has grown into its own arena-sized event, becoming the central clearing-house for visionary filmmakers and radical artists in this medium. This event is 18+, so don’t bring the kids to this one!

Best of the New York International Children's Film Festival Screening and Song of the Sea*

It may be a kid’s fest, but adults are more than welcome! This event features award-winning short films hand-picked from the annual NYC International Children’s Festival such as Pik Pik Pik, Johnny Express, A Single Life, Mythopolis, 5.80 Meters, and more! Our feature, showing once on the 18th, is Song of the Sea, a beautifully hand-animated story about a 10-year old Irish boy, his selkie sister, and their quest to free faeries from a Celtic goddess. Song of the Sea was directed and produced by Tomm Moore, the visionary filmmaker behind The Secret of Kells.
