The 2022 Tallahassee Film Festival takes place September 3-4 at multiple venues downtown and in the All Saints district between FAMU and FSU. Each year, the festival highlights prize-winners and audience favorites from major festivals such as Sundance, SXSW and Tribeca, and offers a showcase for fresh discoveries of new, fiercely independent work – often with the filmmakers in attendance. Past years have included Denis Villeneuve (Dune), Bong Joon-ho (Parasite), Barry Jenkins (The Underground Railroad), Zoe Lister-Jones (The Craft Legacy), Joe Swanberg (Easy), Paolo Sorrentino (The Young Pope), Kat Candler (Queen Sugar), and Khalik Allah (Lemonade).
David Lynch’s 1997 hallucinogenic neo-noir Lost Highway will be the special event screening as the Tallahassee Film Festival returns to local screens Labor Day Weekend, September 3-4, 2022. The new 4k digital restoration of the mind-bending mystery will show at the IMAX theater in downtown’s Challenger Learning Center on Sunday, Sept. 4 with an extra special goodie beforehand.
As if that wasn’t enough, we’ve got 50+ films packed into one weekend! 13 feature films, and one secret screening, all fresh from the festival circuit and running the gamut from beautiful to heartbreaking to funny to exciting to shocking to artistic, and then back again. When you get tired of the features, jump over the 5 different shorts programs we have curated for you, including a special Tallahassee-inspired block of doc shorts, we’re calling “Brew the Right Thing.”
With over 25 attending filmmakers, there’ll be plenty of excellent post-film discussions and opportunities for networking. Saturday night we’re having a 1970s Italian horror film inspired dance party, called “Giallo Disco” at The Bark, and Sunday morning we’re having our annual Filmmaker & VIP Brunch at Charlie Park on the rooftop of the AC Hotel. There will also be a pop-up on Saturday from Ology Coffee Co. at the start of the fest, to get you going for a day of movies and fun!
