Lunch and Learn: Finding Dan McCarty

Lunch and Learn: Finding Dan McCarty

Presented by Florida Historic Capitol Museum at Florida Historic Capitol Museum

The Florida Historic Capitol Museum invites you to join us for a Lunch and Learn presentation on the life and political career of former Florida Governor Dan McCarty.Author and historian Robert Buccellato will discuss his new book Finding Dan McCarty, and explore the legacy of this fallen Governor.

A cattleman and citrus grower from Fort Pierce, McCarty served in the Florida House of Representatives and was Speaker of the House in 1941 at the age of 29. After serving in World War II, McCarty was elected Governor in 1952, but suffered a debilitating heart attack shortly after assuming office. Though he never fully recovered, he served for seven months before he contracted pneumonia and died in September of 1953.  The book paints vivid portraits of McCarty’s many allies, enemies, and the historic events that formed the Governor’s thrilling brief life.

Visitors are invited to bring their own lunch to the presentation or they may order a box lunch by calling 487-1902. Box lunches are $5 for Museum Members and $10 for non-Members. A book signing will follow the presentation.
