A Liking for Lichens is an exhibit of detailed nature studies of beautiful natural formations of lichens on twigs, bark pieces, limbs, trees, and stones in Leon County. They bear witness to the beauty of nature, and are to be found clinging to many objects. This exhibit will be displayed from June 1st through July 30th, 2022 at the Main Library Second Floor display wall. About the artist: Retired to Tallahassee from over thirty years of teaching English at Albany State University, Ohio native Dr. Mary Sterner Lawson turned to art, to watercolor, pen and ink, and ceramics. She has exhibited paintings since the eighties, and her subject matter includes marine scenes, quick portrait sketches, and nature objects. Lawson avidly supports the arts in the Tallahassee area, and has exhibited work at the Florida Seafood Festival, and other venues in Georgia and Florida. She taught watercolor on cruise ships and at the LeMoyne, has artwork in Thomasville's Wiregrass Gallery, and is on the board of the LeMoyne.
