Join us Friday, May 13th for a fun community contra dance! Tallahassee’s own Runaway Biscuits will be playing live bluegrass tunes and Gainesville’s Andy Kane will be calling the dances.
After a long pause due to COVID, Tallahassee community contra dances have resumed the 2nd Friday of each month at the Senior Center! Contra dancing is a beginner-friendly American folk dance for all ages. It shares many moves with square dancing (such as swing your partner and do-si-do) and is danced in long lines to live music. The bands and callers vary each month. No dance experience is needed and you don’t need to bring a partner. Those new to contra dancing are strongly encouraged to come by 7:15, when a Beginner Lesson will be taught, and as dances are taught in more detail early in the evening. Wear comfortable clothes and flat shoes.
Admission cost: $10 for Adults, $9 Seniors over 50, $6 for Students, Free for Kids under 12
Admission is payable by cash or check at the door. Newcomers get in to your 2nd dance free!
