Extended Exhibition: Two Regimes

Extended Exhibition: Two Regimes

Presented by Florida Division of Cultural Affairs at 22nd Floor Capitol Gallery

The Two Regimes Exhibition has been extended in the Capitol Art Gallery on the 22nd Floor of the Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida, through November.

Ukrainian residents of Tallahassee and new arrivals who have just fled their war-torn country will also address this gathering to honor and commemorate the millions that were lost 90 years ago and those that have been lost and are suffering currently- in Ukraine- as history repeats itself.

Teodora Verbitskaya wrote about her life from 1920 to 1945. Her daughter, Nadia Werbitzky, was a professionally trained artist who painted from memory. Teodora and Nadia were witnesses to both the Holodomor and the Holocaust in Ukraine.  During this time, they were sent to Germany to serve as slave laborers. The forced labor camp that held Teodora and her daughters was liberated by United States soldiers in 1945. This exhibition represents the work of these two Ukrainian women.  “Two Regimes” tells a true and powerful story of survival under the two regimes of Stalin and Hitler: before, during, and after the Holodomor of 1932-33, the Holocaust of 1933-1945, and WWII.

MEDIA DAY: Please join us on November 7th from 9:00am – 11:30am for an event that includes Mr. Michael Sawkiw, Jr, Chairman of the US Holodomor Committee for Ukraine Holodomor-Genocide  Awareness 1932-33, and The Florida Delegation of the US Holodomor Committee from Miami, Oksana and Peter Piaseckyj. Also speaking will be Lucianne Vanilar from West Virginia, daughter of the artist Nadia Werbitzky and granddaughter of the author Teodora Verbitskaya, who will speak about her family’s firsthand  documentation of survival under the two genocides known as the Holodomor and the Holocaust- under the two regimes of Stalin and Hitler.
