“Laurie Tenace Paints St Marks and Beyond” opens at Jefferson Arts Gallery Saturday March 5. The Exhibit continues thru March 30.
Jefferson Arts Gallery hosts the exhibit " Laurie Tenace Paints St Marks and Beyond." Opening Saturday March 5 from 2 until 4. The exhibit continues until March 30. Regular Gallery hours are Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 AM until 2 PM. Wednesday evenings from 5 until 7 PM. Laurie Tenace has been painting for four years. But it wasn't until Covid made her stay isolated that she found what she really wanted to paint: the Dawn. She started hiking at St Marks Wildlife Refuge with her two dogs at dawn every few days in the fall of 2020. "The Sunrise at St Mark's can be just amazing. I always see and hear lots of birds but the sky and play of early light across the water and fields of grass are what really inspired me." Besides her series of St. Mark's through the seasons, Laurie paints scenes of rural Jefferson County she finds while driving the back roads. She also creates amazing paintings showing the interplay of light and dark like "Hat and Guitar" which shows local musician Jon Copps playing his guitar.
