Library Lecture Series: Holocaust Remembrance Day

Presented by Leon County Government at LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library

Join Leon County Government on International Holocaust Remembrance Day as Mark Friedemann discusses the life of his father, Richard Friedemann, a Holocaust survivor who fled to the United States and later settled in Tallahassee. Though Richard Friedemann passed away in 2019, his memories and stories live on through his son.
Mark Friedemann will recount his father’s life growing up in Poland, his experiences in four Nazi concentration camps, liberation, and life in the United States. The lecture will include a display of historical photographs and documents as well as his father’s concentration camp uniform.
After the lecture, citizens are invited to view an exhibit featuring historical documents and photographs from Richard Friedemann’s life on display at the Main Library now through January 31, 2022.
International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27 marks the anniversary of the liberation of the German Nazi Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp in 1945. This annual day of commemoration honors and remembers the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and promotes Holocaust education to prevent future genocides.
Attend in person at the Leon County Main Library or online via Zoom.
