Tallahassee Genealogical Society virtual meeting - Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps

Tallahassee Genealogical Society virtual meeting - Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps

Presented by Tallahassee Genealogical Society at Online/Virtual Space

Sunday, January 23rd - “Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps” The Sanborn Company created the majority of fire insurance maps of U.S. urban areas from 1867 until 1961. Maps included 12,000 cities and towns, as well as maps for very small villages, including ones with as few as two hundred inhabitants. Although these maps don’t show owners’ names, genealogists may find a business or house on a Sanborn map and discover something about the structure itself, including its relative position to other houses on the same street or block.

The presentation will be by Mr. Mulcahy - the Reference/Genealogy Librarian for the Lee County Library System (since 1990). He also worked briefly at the Ellen Payne Odom Genealogy Library in Moultrie, GA.

Sharing time/socializing is at 1:30pm and the meeting starts at 2pm.

Please visit talgensoc.com to request the link to register for the Zoom (virtual) meeting. The Zoom link will be emailed to pre-registered attendees about 3 days prior to the meeting.
