Thomasville Center for the Arts - ArtReach

Program description

Since 1993, ArtReach has been a TCA collaborative program with local public and private schools to provide professional theater performances in the Center’s theater for students grades Pre-K through 12.

Pssst…did you know that ArtReach has an Art in School program that coincides with it? The same artists your students watched perform on the TCA stage will come visit your classroom for a lesson and workshop! Head to thomasvillearts.org to learn more!

2016-2017 ArtReach schedule:

Romeo & Juliet
Presented by Rome Shakespeare Festival
Grades 9-12 • September 14 & 15, 2016
Set in Verona in the late 1700’s amid the heated feud of the Montague and Capulet families, Rome Shakespeare Festival is brining the poetic classic Romeo and Juliet, a story about the fate of two lovers, to life on the TCA stage!

The Nutcracker
Presented by South Georgia Ballet
Grades 4-5 • November 1 & 2, 2016
South Georgia Ballet delivers a captivating dance experience with their performance of the classical ballet, The Nutcracker. Students will be presented with selected variations from The Nutcracker, learn about the history of ballet and get the side scoop about what goes on behind the curtains.

Zombie Shakespeare
Presented by Southern Shakespeare Company
Grades 6-8 • January 9, 10 & 11, 2017
Zombie Shakespeare is a highly improvisational romp which begins when Cinderella, Snow White, Goldilocks, Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty pry open Shakespeare’s coffin because they want different stories. Shakespeare recasts them in scenes from his plays, Romeo and Juliet, The Taming of the Shrew, Twelfth Night, Macbeth, and three scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Highly entertaining, with just enough bites of Shakespeare to please every palate!

Pinkalicious: The Musical
Presented by Young Actors Theatre
Grades Pre-K & K • February 21 & 22, 2017
Students will fall in love with the musical version of the popular book, Pinkalicious! When a pink indulgence lands Pinkalicious at the doctor’s office with Pinkititis, only Pinkalicious can figure out a way to get out of this pink predicament. This musical is about learning the power of self-control and the importance of moderation.

Drumming Up Character
Presented by Dancing Drum, Steve Campbell
Grades 1-3 • March 14 & 15, 2017
In this exciting, character-building program, participants will learn rhythms, dances and songs covering character traits like fairness, responsibility and respect. During this high-energy performance, student volunteers will have opportunities to play drums and percussion instruments onstage.
