Visitor Services Intern

Primary Job Description:

Ensuring a welcoming, safe and enjoyable visit for the museum’s visitors. Focuses on customer service, visitor engagements, admissions, greeting visitors, managing gift shop purchases, acknowledging visitor comments/concerns, answering questions, and providing a quality experience.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with day to day Visitor Services tasks including cash register skills, strong multi-tasking, answering telephones, efficient communication, the ability to work and think quickly under pressure, and the ability to engage visitors of all ages.
  • Contributes to the museum’s customer service mission, ensuring a quality experience in a polite, engaging, and professional manner.
  • Greeting guests, retail sales, receiving and pricing merchandise, office administration, scheduling and processing payments for tours, events, and workshops, docent tours, use AV equipment, maintaining tour database,
  • Assisting maintenance, parking, site security and other duties as need.

  • Ability to react positively to a rapidly changing environment
  • Experience working with children and families from diverse backgrounds
  • Must be comfortable dealing with large groups of people and public speaking
  • Ability to understand and apply pertinent rules, regulations, policies, procedures, communicate effectively and have excellent customer service skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills- Must know Office Word, Excel and Access
  • Take care of clerical work including couriers, faxes, and filing forms, etc
  • Maintaining and updating databases on daily, weekly, monthly intervals according to the schedule of each database
  • Ability to present oneself professionally with regards to personal appearance and hygiene and willing to wear a uniform, if needed
  • Must be able to remain at either seated or standing positions for long periods
  • Required to work at least 12 hours a week and have a flexible schedule
