Job Description

Stetson University invites applications for a full-time Brown Visiting Teacher-Scholar Fellow position in our Department of Creative Arts for Fall 2016. We invite applications from practicing artists with a unique creative agenda that will challenge our students, as well as other members of the broader campus community. This appointment is open to any artist who would enhance our established coursework, especially in the following degree programs: Studio Arts, Digital Arts, and Theatre Arts. We strongly encourage applications from artists whose creative agenda may be seen as untraditional and blend elements of these and other often separate practices. We seek a teacher-scholar who is committed to undergraduate education and modeling an active and engaged creative agenda for our students. Ideally, this new colleague should also be committed to pursuing collaborations with creative disciplines on campus, such as theatre arts, digital arts, creative writing, and music during his/her time here. This position is funded by the Cici and Hyatt Brown Visiting Teacher Scholar Fellows Program for one year with an option for a second year appointment after satisfactory performance.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have a Ph.D., M.F.A., or equivalent terminal degree in an appropriate creative discipline. Applicants must be conversant and engaged in contemporary practices related to his/her discipline, with a record of exhibition and/or publication that demonstrates he/she is actively engaged in the presentation of work to the public.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
In keeping with the teacher-scholar model central to the mission of our liberal learning environment, this position involves both teaching and creative practice. The teaching load is five courses (2/3 load) for the academic year, which will include existing courses currently found in the curriculum and the development of new courses that draw on the candidate’s area of expertise. The Brown Teacher-Scholar Fellows participate in faculty development programs, collaborate with current faculty, and mentor undergraduate research. During the appointment, we would like for the Fellow to present some new major work to the public as part of the programming for our Hand Art Center or Second Stage Theatre.

THE CICI AND HYATT BROWN VISITING TEACHER-SCHOLAR FELLOWS PROGRAM:
The Brown Visiting Teacher-Scholar Fellows Program is the flagship program of the Brown Center for Faculty Innovation and Excellence at Stetson University, a central resource for promoting faculty vitality and vibrancy to advance learning. The Fellows Program and the Center were established with a generous endowment from Cici and Hyatt Brown, long-standing University Trustees.
Brown Visiting Teacher-Scholar Fellows are invited to join our inclusive learning community as visiting assistant professors for a residency of up to two academic years. The Fellows Program prepares faculty leaders who inspire excellence in learning, teaching, research, and service; in turn, Fellows leave inspired to lead. During their residency, Fellows develop their role as teacher-scholar leaders and bring niche expertise to the Stetson learning community. Within the teacher-scholar model, our faculty live out Stetson University’s mission to provide an excellent education in a creative community where learning and values meet through exemplary teaching and continuous engagement in scholarly and creative inquiry that cultivates a culture of lifelong learning – at Stetson University and beyond.

THE DEPARTMENT:
The Creative Arts Department (http://www.stetson.edu/creative-arts) is home to academic programs in Studio Art, Art History, Digital Arts, and Theatre Arts. United in the study and practice of creative endeavors, the department fosters collaboration on curricular offerings and event programming at the Hand Art Center and Second Stage Theatre.

THE COMMUNITY:
DeLand is a picturesque residential community of 25,000 located 20 miles west of Daytona Beach and 35 miles northeast of Orlando. The area offers extensive cultural as well as recreational activities.

SALARY: Salary is competitive.
