Jeff Mandel will be directing a production of one of America’s most beloved plays to be performed at the Monticello Opera House opening February 22nd and closing March 3rd. No roles will be pre-cast. If you cannot attend auditions please contact Jeff beforehand. Auditions will be at the Monticello Opera House on Saturday, January 12 from 1pm-4pm, Sunday, January 13th from 6pm-9pm, with callbacks on Monday, January 14th from 6pm-9pm. Audition readings will be from the script; you do not need to prepare a monologue. Looking for a diverse cast.

Here is a list of the characters:

• Stage Manager – a narrator, commentator, and guide through Grover's Corners. He joins in the action of the play periodically, as the minister at the wedding, the soda shop owner, a local townsman, etc., and speaks directly to Emily after her death. [This is a leading character in the play. There will be an actual stage manager in the crew.]
• Emily Webb – one of the main characters; a precocious young girl [must be believable as a high school student]
• George Gibbs – the other main character; the boy next door [must be believable as a high school student]
• Frank Gibbs – George's father, the town doctor.
• Julia (Hersey) Gibbs – George's mother. Charles Webb – Emily's father, Editor of the Grover's Corners Sentinel
• Myrtle Webb – Emily and Wally’s mother.
Secondary characters
• Joe and Si Crowell – local paperboys.
• Simon Stimson – the choir director and church organist.
• Howie Newsome – the milkman, a fixture of Grover's Corners.
• Rebecca Gibbs – George's younger sister.
• Wally Webb – Emily's younger brother.
• Professor Willard – a rather long-winded lecturer
• Woman in Auditorium – concerned with temperance
• Man in Auditorium – concerned with social justice
• Another Woman in Auditorium – concerned with culture and beauty
• Mrs. Louella Soames – a gossipy townswoman and member of the choir
• Constable Bill Warren – the policeman
• Three Baseball Players – [must be believable as high school students]
• Joe Stoddard – the undertaker
• Sam Craig – a nephew of Mrs Gibbs who left town to seek his fortune. He came back after 12 years in Buffalo for Emily's funeral.
