The Museum of Florida History seeks to fill two part-time educator positions (OPS).

JOB DESCRIPTION

Work hours:  up to 20 hrs/week as needed

Salary: $12.50/hr

Schedule: Various weekends as needed:

Saturday 9:45 am – 4:45 pm

Sunday 11:45 am – 4:45 pm

Various weekdays flexible: Monday – Friday 8:45 am – 4:45 pm

Various special events, outreach, and community programs as needed.

Duties:

  • Give introductions, tours, and programs to student and adult groups
  • Staff the Welcome Desk as needed
  • Conduct opening and closing procedures
  • Maintain daily visitor statistics, weekend, special event, and other requested reports
  • Help create and implement Museum programming
  • Help coordinate Museum volunteers
  • Staff evening functions at the Museum of Florida History and/or Knott House Museum as needed
  • Help in the distribution of bulk mailings, this includes flyers for programming and student packets
  • Enforce Museum policies (such as no food or drink in the exhibits)
  • Be familiar with education and visitor databases, including FileMakerPro scheduling DB
  • Other office and educational duties as director by supervisor

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree; preferred subjects are education, museum studies, social studies, history, anthropology, or related fields
  • Flexible work schedule; available to work weekends on a regular basis and provide staffing for Museum of Florida History and Knott House Museum as needed
  • Friendly and team player
  • Willing to learn Museum of Florida History and Knott House Museum visitor service and operational procedures
  • Experience working and interacting with people, including diverse audiences
  • Competency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet, and other technology based systems including FileMakerPro

A Level 2 criminal background check is a condition of employment.  If selected for this position, you must provide your fingerprints.  We will send your fingerprints to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a criminal background check.
