PEARLS: Preserving and Embracing Apalachicola’s Rich Legacy of Shotguns is an effort by Save our Shotguns Apalachicola, Inc. intended to showcase the simple beauty of the city’s shotgun houses, preserve their history and highlight their usefulness in the creation of affordable housing. The second annual event will take place at multiple venues during the entire month of April, and is punctuated by the PEARLS art exhibition. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, April 7 at the Apalachicola Center for History, Culture and Art and the show will conclude with an art auction on Saturday, April 28.

Artists are invited to submit works for display, and for sale using any medium, such as painting, drawing, photography or sculpture, including glass, woodwork or repurposed mixed media. This year’s theme is: The Houses on the Hill: Every House Tells a Story. The Hill occupies the historic northeast corner of the city, and is considered the hub of the African-American community in Apalachicola. Following the exhibition, PEARLS will pay artists 50-percent on sales of their work and will be accepting art as tax-deductible donations. For more information visit www.saveourshotguns.org.
