Job-Type – Intern, part-time (5-10 hours per week) unpaid.

Required education – high school diploma

Required experience - No experience necessary but must be willing to commit, dependable, reliable, diligent, inclusive, and savvy with social media. Most important, enjoys helping and working in the community. Basic management, personal, or business branding experience is a plus.

The Plant is an inclusive creative and safe D.I.Y. community space where everyone is welcomed and empowered to organize, research and encourage the free expression of others. The Plant is solely operated by volunteers and donations, valuing engagement, education, and empowerment. The Plant is an organic space that grows with the community by bringing together diverse groups, demographics, and ideas around creative expression.

We are seeking a social media and outreach coordinator intern responsible for managing our social media pages, as well as maintaining our digital presence and public relations. This is a 6 month, unpaid intern position, renewal dependent on collective evaluation and ability.

The Plant holds open meetings every Tuesday at 6pm, open to members of the community to propose events, classes, meetings, as well as become involved with volunteering and using the space.

Role Expectations:

  • Develop recommendations for enhancing digital communication efforts with the community.
  • Evaluate and report on social media activities on a monthly basis utilizing surveys, web metrics, conference audience tracking and other methods.
  • Manage and maintain regular activity on social media sites on a daily basis, adding photos, responding to or forwarding messages, and maintaining event pages.
  • Stay abreast of current and upcoming activities surrounding relevant issues to the collective and ensuring social media tools are current to share with the community.
  • Monitor multiple social network sites for relevant information within the community, recommend items for distribution through the organization’s social networks or websites.
  • Produces recommendations to the board based on trends identified through the social networks, non-profits, and monitoring digital media tracking.
  • Attend at least two open meetings per month, reporting on activities.
