PAAC and Anacostia Trails Heritage Area Inc. (ATHA) invites artists to submit multi or interdisciplinary projects that combine the arts with the rich history and natural resources unique to the Anacostia Trails Heritage Area. The project - whether it is a cartographic exploration of the trails or the area’s flora and fauna, a map of time that looks at how the area has evolved, a set of paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, books or a combination that investigate the soul of the Anacostia Trails Heritage Area, or a piece that uses sound, video or performance - should resonate with the ideas of history, place/ memory, nature and art. Site specific installations are welcome.

Maryland Milestones/ATHA is the regional Heritage Area program – part of a system of Certified Maryland Heritage Areas – for northern Prince Georges’ County and the Washington D.C. Metro area.

Eligibility Open to artists in all stages of their career (not currently enrolled full time students) in the disciplines of painting, drawing, printmaking, papermaking, sculpture, book arts, mixed-media, installation, video or performance.

Pyramid Atlantic Art Center has a fully equipped printshop, book bindery, typeshop, paper studio and hollander beater. Selected artists will receive: - Key to PAAC studios and 24 hour access - Storage space and flat file - Use of standard shop supplies - $500 stipend for travel, housing, materials etc. - 10 hours of technical assistance

Each applicant will be judged on the artistic merit of his/her work, interest and potential in printmaking, paper arts and book arts (or combination thereof), as well as the quality and clarity of his/her plan for the residency. Artists are also asked to give a brief talk about their work during their residency and to have a piece available on the Maryland Milestones Gallery Wall.

Residency Length: Minimum 2 weeks, maximum 1 month (specify amount of time in application) for September, October or November 2016.
