About us

The mission of Tallahassee Live Music Community Charity Group is to pave an alternative path to success for at-risk youth by providing after-school music and performing arts programs and enrichments at no cost to families.

TLMC’s mission and vision was created through the founders’ recognition of the transformative power that music and the arts had on their respective lives and upbringings. This led to a desire to extend likewise opportunities for music exposure and education to at-risk youth in Leon County, eventually extending these services to the greater Big Bend region. While our mission was initially focused on music education, we have since broadened our scope to include other art disciplines in our current and future programming.

We currently offer free lessons in dance, guitar, piano, and live music production for students who qualify. In addition to the programming we offer, we also provide free instruments and practice workbooks to students in our programs. Our programming is largely funded through live events hosted at our venue, Warrior on the River Theater of the Performing Arts. All services we provide are held onsite at our venue (with the exception of our work with the DJJ) and are led by volunteer instructors.

We are currently looking for volunteers to serve in the following areas:

  • Instructors - Volunteer instructors in this role would teach beginner and/or intermediate guitar lessons to at-risk youth ranging from ages 4-18 (a majority of our students are within 12-18 years of age). Volunteer instructors should have availability in the afternoons or evenings and the ability to teach an hour-long class at least once a week.
  • Marketing Committee - Volunteers in our marketing committee would assist in the marketing department through brainstorming new and innovative ways to market our organization and the events that benefit the organization, provide critical feedback regarding marketing plans and the allocation of resources, and general support through activities such as posting flyers or chalking.
  • Program Committee - Volunteers in our program committee would assist in the program administrator and program committee through participating in discussions surrounding program priorities, evaluate the current status and expansion of the variety of programs we offer at TLMC, and oversee new program development.
  • Guest Speakers - As a volunteer guest speaker, you will lead stand-alone workshops or talks and answer students' questions about your career path and respective industry. If you are a working professional in the performance industry (ie. sound engineer, pianist, songwriter, playwright, dancer, etc.), we invite you to contact us regarding becoming a guest speaker for TLMC!
