Praised for their “cohesive energy, intelligent musicality, and technical prowess”, Trio Riva focuses on sharing works written by living and underrepresented composers. Trio Riva’s members have extensive experience as chamber musicians performing in Asia, Europe, North, South, and Central America. They have played in prestigious halls including Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York and Seoul National Theatre in South Korea.

Trio Riva was born after a sight-reading session of the Brahms B Major Piano Trio which eventually led to a road trip through Italy in a Fiat 500 Riva. The road trip ended with their debut in Italy at the Sala Lunga at Palacio di Piobbico, followed by a performance at the Palazzo Ducale di Urbino.

The trio enjoys working directly with composers to learn the process and intentions of their music. The trio had the opportunity to work with Liliya Ugay on Spread. Flowers., a piece inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic written for the trio for a Carnegie Hall world premiere. WIth Ella Ensemble, they commissioned Korean composer Eunseon Yu to write Mosaicism, a piece combining different musical elements inspired by the ensemble’s diverse cultural backgrounds. The trio has also worked with Pulitzer Prize Winner Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, playing her music across the country.

Future engagements include a tour across Brazil. Trio Riva’s members have doctorate degrees from Florida State University.
