As art imitates life, emerging artist Robin Washington is a beautiful amalgam of various arts and influences she has engaged throughout her life. She was born in St Petersburg Florida in 1983, and as many of us begin, her first form of art was not necessarily visual but the art of words. Robin was a poet and a performer of spoken word having performed at many open mic and events in Birmingham Alabama. Robin is a formative foundational member of a collective of artists known as Diverse artists that is based in Alabama. Her time with Diverse Artists would lead her to evolve and integrate her spoken word arts into the visual artist she has become. She would learn that her love for the spoken word was like that of a niece, whereas the deep love she has for visual art is like that of a daughter that she has been raising ever since.

Robin’s style infuses realism with comic line art that creates a heavily layered surrealist appearance with ageless soul. Elements of inspiration can be seen from her love of film such as the French film Fantastic Planet, to the fantastic fiction of Maurice Sendak’s “Where the Wild Things Are,” to the whimsical imagination of Dr. Seus.

Robin has experienced growing success as an artist as her dedication and passion have refined her skill and her resolve. Robin’s work can be found in homes, offices, and institutions of higher learning in a growing number of cities across the country including Houston, Atlanta,Tallahassee in Alabama, and St Petersburg Florida. Her work can be found even as far away as Manhattan New York.
As her Popularity has grown so has her demand, having successfully sold 5 pieces before Opening reception during an Art Walk that freshman from Eckard College in St Petersburg Florida were in attendance.
Gwendolyn Resse Peterson, a beloved friend and Patron of Robin Washington’s work, Introduced Robin to her mentor and art dealer, Carla Bristol, a community leader and member of Black Caucus.
