Bruised Grass © / SimpleMan Music © (All Rights Reserved) is pure southern funk n soul rock n roll spiritual blues and cross over genre acoustic music. Florida recording artist, SimpleMan is a musician / singer-songwriter, originally from Georgia, raised in Florida's capitol city, Tallahassee who resides in Monticello. The name of the band originated from a land tracking "indicator".
Bruised Grass © (the band) originated in Florida in the early 2006. SimpleMan, the founder and primary songwriter for the band, began writing songs and story line compositions at an early age but efforts increased in the early 1990's.
In the 2000's SimpleMan began a second attempt at God given talents in music, songwriting, composition writing, art conceptions and poetry. Time was spent playing and "cutting teeth" with a variety of cover bands followed by many charity and solo events throughout the capitol city, southeast U.S., local and regional venues. Cancer, Veteran and environmental events being the primary choices of charity and donation. The band eventually went on to play (out of town) events and venues such as the Freebird Live in Jacksonville, the Hard Rock Cafe in Destin; Suwannee River Music Park in Live Oak, Spinnaker's in Panama City Beach, Florida - where an honor of opening up for Bo Bice and friends / legends, The Bellamy Brothers, this show was charity for the Gulf Oil Spill Benefit.
On November 9, 2013 the City of Tallahassee / WTXL and affiliated stations awarded the band with the (one and only) "People's Choice Award" after a public contest won the people's vote for original "Come & Take It". The band was also featured on WTLX Sunrise Rocks, a local early morning show. The band also invited Michael Allman, son of Gregg Allman, for a night of Allman Brothers Band music at Krewe De Gras in Tallahassee. (Full show links for these shows and more can be found below).
THE BLACK & BLUE ALBUM © was a debut release produced, recorded, mixed and mastered at SimpleMan Music Studio. Many local talents and artists contributed and donated their artistic efforts for this debut concept. On April 26, 2014 the band released their debut 18 song double cd, several positive reviews and interviews followed. The Bruised Grass band played there last live show at the Suwannee River Music Park in February 2015 (also caught in full concert in a Maconga Production video - links below).
A 2015 solo effort was forged with recordings completed in the "Macon, Georgia" sessions at Muscadine Recording Studio. In September 2019, SimpleMan began writing new songs for a solo debut project which was completed and released in April 2020 as the self titled "SimpleMan" ©. This project is a full 13 song release composed mostly of new material written and three songs added which were recorded in the 2015 "Macon Georgia sessions" at Muscadine Recording Studio.
SimpleMan works as a recording artist, ASCAP songwriter and publisher, releasing a debut solo acoustic effort titled SimpleMan © 2020 was written, recorded and produced by M.W. Simpson at SimpleMan Music Studios and at Jefferson Art Gallery in Monticello, Florida. Three tracks off of the cd release were recorded at Muscadine Recording Studio in Macon, GA (2015) with famed music producer Paul Hornsby. This solo effort features songs written from 1997 – 2020, these lyrics are attached below in PDF.
In September 2020, a sophomore SimpleMan solo release titled “Reflections 20/20” © was completed and released in some circles, full release TBA pending distribution deal. In November 2020, SimpleMan began a music production and publishing company. Aside from ASCAP songwriter and Publisher status, he is making efforts to pursue the licensing of his music for TV and FIlm. (To be continued)….
