Writing Workshop: Finding Your Global Soul

Novelist John Gardner once said that all of literature can be distilled to two plots: a person goes on a journey, a stranger comes to town.

“Finding Your Global Soul to Locate Your Geographic Center” is an interactive half-day workshop open to all audiences and writing levels. The workshop will be led by three TWA members–Dr. Faith Eidse, Dr. Kome Onokpise and P.C. Zick–each have authored several books, many of which are themed around their experience of journey.

Whether you’ve lived abroad, traveled to other countries, or are contently rooted in your hometown, this workshop provides great insight on how you can style your writing with a geographic center. In addition to presentations on “growing up global,” there will be several guided writing prompts and time for critique.

Dr. Kome Onokpise, a retired FAMU professor, is a naturalized U.S. citizen born and raised in Nigeria. He pursued a global education in Nigeria, Canada and the U.S. He has published three books including Coming of Age: Nigerian Youth Development in the 1960s and 1970s.

Dr. Faith Eidse, a retired creative writing professor and Medicaid policy expert, was born and raised in Congo, Canada and the U.S. She has published five books. Unrooted Childhoods: Memoirs of Growing Up Global, is now a Princeton textbook. Voices of the Apalachicola won the Florida oral history of 2007.

P.C. Zick writes romance, contemporary fiction, and nonfiction. She’s won various awards for her writing. Zick edited, annotated, and published her great-grandfather’s memoir of his time as a soldier in Civil War Journal of a Union Soldier.
