The Foster-Tanner Fine Arts Gallery is pleased to present the Visions: Graduating Senior Exhibition from April 8 – May 3, 2019. Visions is a recurring exhibition series that celebrates and features the work of graduating FAMU Fine Arts students. This semester our graduating seniors are Stephanie Smith (Jacksonville, FL), Shante Griffin (Cartersville, GA and Orlando, FL), and Kaiyla Thompson (Raleigh, NC).
Stephanie Smith’s exhibition, titled Years of Enlightenment, is a creative depiction of her growth from childhood to present. In her illustrations of photographs from the past and present, she looks to honor those who have guided and encouraged her throughout college career and her life.
In her display of works titled Abundant Life , Shante Griffin looks to honor God as the foundation of her life and proclaim her Christian faith. Shante uses biblical references as the basis for her large scale pieces and uses symbols to represent the presence of God in her everyday life.
Kaiyla Thompson (also known as Infinite K) will be presenting her exhibition, titled In God’s Name. With her presentation of mixed-media paintings and installed works, Kaiyla looks to deconstruct the elements that make up our world and display them in their most essential forms.
Visions provide FAMU graduating seniors with an opportunity to create, curate, and present their artwork as the culmination of their undergraduate careers. Stephanie, Shante, and Kaiyla will collectively present an interactive station entitled Worlds of Affirmation. This work asks viewers to consider the truths the artists have shared, and to share their own.
The Foster-Tanner Fine Arts Gallery is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. Metered parking is available on Wahnish Way, between Osceola Street and Gamble Streets.
