CURRENTLY CLOSED - Tallahassee Proud

Tallahassee Proud gives viewers an artful look at some of the area’s most recognizable and beloved people and places. From notable residents to our unique architecture and natural history, this exhibit promises to highlight Tallahassee at its finest.

Using a wide variety of techniques and media, 41 artists from around the area show how Tallahassee inspires their civic pride. Those artists are:

Rex Adams, Mike Alfano Jr., Natalia Andreeva, Inger Avant, Lydia Bell, Debra  Brienen, Randy Brienen, Kristin “Joy” Brown, Marina Brown, Tammy Brown, Riko Carrion, Katie Clark, Leslie Cohen, Steve Coleman, James Daniels, Sandy DeLopez, Diane Dyal, Danielle Figueroa, Neil Fletcher, Carolyn Flowers, Veronica Hernandez, Tiffiny Hewitt-Brown, Valerie Johns, Ann Kawamoto, Deon Lewis, Mary Jane Lord, Pattie Maney, Janice McCaskill, William McKeown, Yoshiko Murdick, Elvi Nichols, Ruth Nickens, Elizabeth Purdum, Kent Putnam, Roger Raepple, Mary Spector, Mikiko Tanaka, Dan Taylor, Randy Traynor, Jessica Utley, and Mark Wallheiser.

On display are more than 50 renderings of friends and neighbors, restaurants and businesses, cultural institutions and historic landmarks.

Artists have captured local pastimes and characters that make our city unique. They’ve considered every nook and cranny and have highlighted the humble as well as the grand. Through painting, drawing, photography, ceramic, fiber, and glass, this exhibition tells a visual story about what it means to be Tallahassee Proud.

This art exhibition will run concurrently with a special project called Poems on Panes facilitated by COCA in collaboration with the Downtown Improvement Authority. Local literary artists created new poems with “Tallahassee Proud” as the writing prompt. Selected poems will be printed onto window clings and publicly displayed on storefronts of participating downtown Tallahassee businesses, allowing residents and visitors to discover poetry in public places. A public reception for the exhibition begins at 6:00pm on Wednesday, March 4 in the City Hall Gallery, and lasts until 7:30. The awards ceremony will start at 6:30pm and will be held in the Commission Chambers. It will include a public poetry reading from the poets participating in the Poems on Panes project.
