This week we welcome the splendid and internationally famous Ms. Vicki Morrison back from her adventures in New Zealand, where she toured, danced, AND called dances. Here she is, right here in River City. And we welcome Sligo Line back to the stage — Tallahassee’s premier Celtic dance band — all fired up from their St. Patrick’s Day performances and ready to play so we can dance, and dance, and dance.
We feature contra dances (long facing lines), with occasional circle and square dances, to live traditional American music that has English, Irish, Scottish, French and African roots. We start with dances that are pretty easy to learn; as you gain confidence you will dance somewhat more complex dances. All dances are taught before they are danced, and the caller will prompt you as to the next move during the dance. No special clothes required, though we do recommend against high heels and boots. Dress for lively activity.
If you are new to this type of dancing, would like a refresher, or would like to help the newcomers, please come at 7:15 pm for a brief introductory lesson.
Come with a partner, by yourself, or with a group; you will likely dance with lots of different people during the evening.
Please bring a snack to share if you are so moved. We have snacks because people like you bring them. Also please bring your own water bottle, to cut down on paper waste; and walk, cycle, bus or carpool to the dance to further cut down your carbon footprint.
Lots of information about our dance community, and about old-time and contra dancing in general, is posted on our website at www.tallydancer.comPlease share this event with your FB friends.
