Square Dance Sampler Dance– Drop-in on a Regular Square Dance night

Come and see how much fun Modern Western square dancing is.

Tallahassee’s Capital Twirlers Square Dance Club invites you to “Drop-In” to get a taste of what square dancing is all about on Monday nights in the Tallahassee Senior Center 1400 N Monroe St second floor ballroom.  Participate in some basic steps with the Capital Twirlers Square Dance Club.  During the next three months, join us on the dance floor from 7 – 8 PM on December 11 and January 22.  Then stick around to join a new beginner’s class starting on January 29th for 12 weeks at $3 a lesson.  Square dancing is a delightfully energetic activity.  You will be smiling within minutes, laughing and want to keep on dancing.

If your first thought is: “I can’t dance”, there’s no worry about stepping on your partner’s toes, since you are usually dancing side-by-side.  No fancy footwork is required. Instead, you walk quickly in time with the music as you shape moving formations with the other dancers in your square – following the caller’s instructions. It is not difficult to learn; and you don’t have to be graceful. The challenge is in not knowing what will come next; the next step will be “called” out to you.  As you continue learning, each “call” or step builds on the previous ones so, with practice, you will be rewarded with the very fun and satisfying experience of square dancing! You will walk many steps at each session, so wear comfortable clothes and shoes.  (No crinolines or cowboy boots needed.) Contrary to our name, we do not twirl much, so you will not get dizzy.  Please bring a partner, if you can, to get the most out of the event. All ages.
