Remembering the Forgotten Coast: A Benefit for Mexico Beach small businesses

Big Bend Poets and Writers invites the public to Remembering the Forgotten Coast, a fund-raising benefit to assist small business owners in Mexico Beach, who are still struggling to rehabilitate their stores and income lost when the local economy was shattered as Hurricane Michael destroyed over 70% of the town.  The event will be held at Square Mug Café and Coffee Shop, 567 Industrial Drive, Tallahassee in Railroad Square Art Park, from 7 P.M. to 9 P.M. on Tuesday, February 18, 2012.  The event is free, and donations are encouraged.

Musical duo Hot Tamale will perform, followed by stories and photography of the hurricane devastation in Mexico Beach by Alex Workman, founder of NeverForgottenCoast, a Tallahassee-based financial grant relief organization.  Dr. David Berlan, a professor at FSU’s Askew School of Public Administration, will give a short talk on the effectiveness of generosity in Hurricane Michael’s aftermath and how that is making a difference to small rural and coastal communities.  Elizabeth George of Elizabeth E. George Photography will exhibit her lovely photographs of The Forgotten Coast.  Not least, some of our Big Bend poets will read poetry inspired by the hurricane.

Food and drinks available from 6 PM at Square Mug Café and Coffee Shop.  The show starts at 7.
