PEARLS Celebration: Preserving and Embracing Apalachicola's Rich History of Shotgun Houses

Saturday, April 7: Pearls Launch Party (5-7pm)

Art Show Opening: Join us for hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and an eclectic art exhibit
featuring paintings, photographs, birdhouses, models and more – all with the Hill’s historic houses as their motif. Exhibitors are local and national, novices and professionals.

Sunday, April 8: Hillside Photography Exhibit Opening Reception (3pm) 
Holy Family Senior Center, Dr Frederick S Humphries St at Avenue L

Enjoy an exhibit of rare old photographs of Holy Family School and the African-American Hill community.  Last year we donated more than 40 enlarged archival photographs, this year we are adding 30 more to the collection.

Tuesday, April 10-Thursday, April 12: Plein Air Paint-A-Shotgun Workshop with Kate Knapp (10am-2pm).  Open to artists of any experience and any medium. Sign up at Center for History, Culture and Art. Bring your own supplies.  See more of Kate Knapp\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’s work at www.kateknappartist.com

Thursday, April 12: Meet & Greet Plein Air Artist Kate Knapp (5-6:30pm).   Center for History, Culture and Art, 86 Water St.

Saturday, April 14: Save Our Shotguns: A Symposium (9am-5pm).  Center for History, Culture and Art, 86 Water St.  Presentations on issues of zoning, heir property and community land trusts, followed by a panel discussion and Q and A on the future of the Hill.

Saturday, April 14: Street Party Between 2 Shotguns (6:30-9pm). Ave L between 8^th and 9^th Streets.  Live music; bar-b-que dinners for sale. Bring your own chairs.

Sunday, April 15: “Bless Us All,” An Interfaith Service (9-10:30am)
St Paul AME Church, 81 Ave I
Ministers of several local churches will lead us in a rousing outdoor church service.

Tuesday, April 17: The Shotgun Community of North Port St Joe (6-8pm)
Hear the stories of North Port St Joe and its connection to Apalachicola.

Wednesday, April 18: \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\”The Little House\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” Children\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’s Story Hour (6-7pm)
Apalachicola Margaret Key Library, 80 12th St
Bring Me A Book Franklin presents The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton, the story of a little house that becomes engulfed by the city that grows up around it.  Come build your own house from various shapes and receive a copy of The Little House while supplies last.

Thursday, April .19: Photography Workshop with Charlie Sawyer (9-11am)
Meet at Holy Family Center, 7th St at Ave L, rain date Friday, April 20.
How to See and Capture Better Photographs
Bring any digital camera with fully-charged batteries (plus optional tripod and additional lenses if you use these.)

Saturday, April 21: Florida Stories Hillside Walking Tour Launch Party (5-7pm)
Save Our Shotguns Apalachicola is excited to present Florida Stories-Hillside as the newest tour offering for the Florida Humanities Council’s audio walking tour series.
Join us for a short talk about the app and its development, refreshments, and a ceremonial download—then explore the sites and history of the Hill!

Sunday, April 22: Walking History Tour (2-4pm)
Convene at 2pm at Holy Family Senior Center, Dr Frederick S Humphries St at Ave L.
A walking tour of the Hill highlighting houses and their stories with Pam Richardson.

Saturday, April 28: Closing Party and Art Auction (5-7pm)
Center for History, Culture and Art, 86 Water St.
Mingle with the artists as we close out our month-long celebration of Apalachicola’s rich legacy of historic housing.
