Florida State University’s Museum of Fine Arts has opened the new virtual exhibit New Landscapes, featuring more than 30 photographic works on loan from selected artists and from the museum’s permanent collection.
It is a New Landscape out there. It is a natural landscape, which we now share with a new life-threatening virus. It is a cultural landscape activated through righteous protests against racism, violence, and injustice. It is a digital landscape in which we gather and communicate. We perceive through the lenses of innumerable cameras that it is a new landscape, but we do not yet understand it. Please join Program Coordinator Annie Booth, on Friday, July 31 from 12:00 - 12:30 p.m. as she guides you through New Landscapes. On this tour, we will take a deep dive into three works from the exhibition: Boulders by Shoog McDaniel, Deep Blue Down by the Wheelchair Highwaymen, and Eve Sonneman’s, Landscape/Cloud, New Mexico. Discussion is encouraged as we explore these unexpected landscapes and brainstorm our own descriptive poems. Then, join us on Saturday, August 1 from 11:00 - 12:00 p.m. for Make It With MoFA: Landscape Collages. During this Make It With MoFA, Program Coordinator Annie Booth will assist you as you make your own collage landscape. While you are finding and cutting out your own source images, she'll lead a presentation and conversation exploring how work in New Landscapes transforms the familiar landscape into something new.
