Napoleon at the Movies

“Napoleon at the Movies” features more than forty original posters created between 1908 and 1989 from sixteen countries.

Napoleon Bonaparte has been featured in more films than any other character in history. What is it about the rise and fall of this particular figure that filmmakers and audiences in the 20th century found so fascinating? Through nearly 50 posters advertising Napoleon movies to international audiences, this exhibition looks at a small segment of cultural ephemera that speaks volumes about the formation of national identities during the tumultuous years of 1908-1989.
