Journey to Emancipation Statewide History Conference

The John G. Riley Center & Museum will host a statewide history conference on a variety of educational topics ranging from the history of the Civil War and Emancipation to Florida Maroon Societies and the Underground Railroad.

Engage with historians, educators, archivists and political leaders on the history and facts along the road to Emancipation of enslaved Africans in America. Conference speakers and panelists will discuss the significance of the Emancipation Proclamation; December 6th, the date of the ratification of the 13th Amendment; May 20th, Florida’s Emancipation date; and the other topics of historical relevance.
