History at High Noon—Historic Preservation: Surveying Florida's Past

In honor of National Historic Preservation Month, Ruben Acosta, Chief of the Bureau of Historic Preservation, discusses the importance of historic resource survey.The discussion will include the history of the preservation movement in the United States and how local communities can participate in and benefit from documenting historic resources.He also explores the origin of systematic survey as part of the Historic American Buildings Survey during the New Deal, standardization following the passage of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, and possible challenges facing surveyors in the future.

The program will be held in the Gallery for Innovation & The Arts (First Floor of the R.A. Gray Building) and is free and open to the public.
