The Gadsden Arts Center & Museum will present a talk about the early days of A.E. Backus and the Highwaymen. Kathleen Fredrick is Executive Director of the A.E. Backus Museum in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Kathleen Fredrick has been Executive Director of the Backus Museum and Gallery for nineteen years, leading its recent million-dollar expansion. Her talk focuses on the heritage and entrepreneurial spirit of Florida's original Highwaymen. Led by Harold Newton and Alfred Hair, the Highwaymen developed an assembly-line method of painting quickly in order to produce large quantities of their popular landscapes to be sold door-to-door.
