First Annual Bloomsday Festival

On June 16, 1954, the 50th anniversary of the Joyce’s Ulysses, a group of Dubliners decided to follow the path of the character Leopold Bloom in the novel. They only made it through a couple of pubs before they were significantly inebriated and started fighting with each other. But it became a tradition in Dublin that has spread across the globe. The Tallahassee Irish Rep is bringing that tradition to Tallahassee with the Bloomsday Festival at Goodwood Museum & Gardens. Meet Molly Bloom, the free-spirited, verbally sensual wife of Leopold as she waits for her lover (mature content), Jessica Lowe-Minor recreates Nora Joyce, James’ wife, describing their life together, gain insights from S.E Gontarski and Camille Gonçalves Vilela dos Santos in their talk Who reads Joyce, and Why, sing-along Irish Songs with John Camacho, and delight in a performance by the Tallahassee Irish Step Dancers. Then sit back and revel in the play Bloomsday by Steven Dietz, a love story surrounding a Bloomsday tour in Dublin. The Tallahassee Irish Society will be there, with libations! And all activities are held OUTDOORS!
