Faculty Solo Recital – Katherine Weintraub, saxophone

The FSU College of Music is pleased to present the faculty solo recital of Katherine Weintraub, saxophone, on Friday, October 13, 2017, in Dohnányi Recital Hall. Professor Weintraub will be accompanied on piano by Dr. Deloise Lima. Works for the evening include:

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Katherine Weintraub, Visiting Assistant Professor of Saxophone, is a decorated performer and passionate educator. A native of Sarasota, she made her solo debut at the age of 15 performing Jacques Ibert’s Concertino da Camera with the Florida Orchestra. Known for her sensitive musicianship, Weintraub champions the standard repertoire of the saxophone in addition to contemporary music and creative transcriptions of borrowed works. She holds BM and MM degrees from the University of Michigan, where she was a pupil of Donald Sinta. She is also a recent doctoral graduate of the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with Chien-Kwan Lin. Weintraub received first prize at the International William C. Byrd Young Artist Competition in 2013. In the fall of 2014, she was the winner of the Eastman School of Music Concerto Competition. Shortly after, she was named first-prize winner of the International Saxophone Symposium and Competition in Georgia. Weintraub has performed as a soloist with the Eastman Wind Ensemble and the Flint Symphony Orchestra.

Deloise Chagas Lima was born in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil. She began piano study at the age of nine and at age eleven she gave her solo debut at the School of Music and Fine Arts in Parana, Brazil, where she later received her Bachelors Degree in Piano, Organ, and Music Education, obtaining a gold medal as the most outstanding student during the course of her degree. Following her graduation she studied English at Newbold College in England while completing a Performance Certificate in piano from Trinity College of Music. Dr. Lima is also an Associate of the Royal College of Music in organ performance. She received the Master of Music degree in piano performance and literature at the University of Notre Dame, and the Doctor of Music degree in Piano Accompanying from the Florida State University.

A sought-after accompanist and chamber musician, she has performed extensively throughout Brazil with many nationally recognized singers and instrumentalists. She was also the pianist of the Minas Gerais Symphony for two seasons, and was a soloist with that orchestra and the Curitiba Chamber Orchestra. Her performances as an accompanist have taken her to Europe, the United States, and South America.
