Through an investigative process of map drawing in her youth, contemporary artist, Laura De Valencia, developed a unique connection with borders, land, and water. Drawing maps has always given her insight and an intuitive understanding of how surveyed geographical features were manually depicted through lines, grids, and geometry—elements that later emerged formally in her paintings. While translating sketches into paintings, the artist delves into the concept of loss, akin to the way nuances can fade when speaking a foreign language.
