Many music polls list Revolver as the top album of all time. This 1966 masterpiece saw the band expanding its musical horizons, something that had begun with the prior album, Rubber Soul.
On Revolver, the Beatles were fully transitioning from playful Mop Tops to psychedelic musical adventurers -- using the studio as another “instrument.”
The album launched a rich period of experimentation that coincided with their decision to stop performing live. With memorable songs like “Eleanor Rigby,” “Yellow Submarine,” and “Tomorrow Never Knows,” they pushed popular music to a place it had never been.
