Back Again - Solo Show with works by Christina Klein

Back Again, an exhibition by artist Christina Klein, opens at the Venvi Art Gallery on June 1 and runs till July 15. Klein’s work showcases the themes of home, family, abandonment, and rebuilding.

 

Mainly acrylic on canvas, supported by recycled wood panels and quilted fabric, the individual works are made from old and new materials mixed together. The juxtaposition represents Klein’s inspiration – collapsing buildings that sit alongside new construction. As the community transforms, homes break apart, and new ones spring up. What is left is a unique kind of beauty: splintered wood, abandoned vintage couches, image fragments of lives once lived. Reflective of her native Kansas, as well as the rural flight phenomenon that takes people away from where they grew up, Klein’s work is both a tribute and a promise.

Klein is a graduate of Kansas State University and Justus-Liebig- University Giessen, Erasmus. She studied both painting and sculpture, and she earned her MFA from Florida State University in 2017. A recent recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship, Klein is set to begin study at the Academy of Arts in Nuremberg from September 2018 – July 2019.
