2016 Season of Emancipation Celebration

The 2nd Infantry Regiment United States Colored Troops (USCT) Living History Association is proud to announce its 2016 Season of Emancipation Celebration. The 2nd Infantry Regiment USCT LHA will be participating in the Annual City-wide Celebration and will be hosting and/or participating in several events:

• Friday, May 20, 2016 – 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. – Wreath- Laying Ceremony and Salute to Fallen U.S.C.T. Soldiers – Old City Cemetery, Martin Luther King Street, Tallahassee

• Friday, May 20, 2016 – 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. – Historical Reenactment and Reading of the Emancipation Proclamation – Knott House Museum, 301 East Park Avenue, Tallahassee

• Saturday, May 21, 2016 –9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. – … A Walk Through Living History Festival Parade and Day in the Park (recognizing our Armed Forces)– Speed Spencer Stephens Park, 1907 Saxon Street , Tallahassee [VENDOR & PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE]

• Saturday, May 21, 2016 – 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. – 6th Annual Emancipation and Abolitionist Ball – The Augustus B. Turnbull III Florida State Conference Center, 555 West Pensacola Street, Tallahassee [TICKETS REQUIRED]

The 2nd Infantry Regiment USCT LHA is an affiliate of the John G. Riley House Center and Museum of African American History and Culture designed to promote the history of the Civil War and the African-American presence in Pre-War, War and Post-War events; particularly those in Florida. The Association pays tribute to those African-American soldiers who fought with the Union forces in many battles throughout the state, settled throughout Florida and played a major role in Florida’s Reconstruction.
