Event Safety Alliance
The Event Safety Alliance Reopening Guide is a collective work by event industry professionals to help our peers who are planning to reopen during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. This document contains no “best practices” that apply everywhere – coronavirus creates different challenges depending on countless factors, including the size of the event, its geographic location, the physical space, and the anticipated attendees, to name just a few. Instead, in the order one would plan an event, we have identified reasonably foreseeable health risks and suggested options to mitigate them. This Classified now also contains a Six Month Update.
ESA and National Independent Venue Association (NIVA)- SAFE IN SOUND: A Reopening Checklist for the Live Entertainment IndustryAs people in the U.S. continue to get vaccinated and cities and states begin to reopen, the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) and Event Safety Alliance (ESA), in partnership with Association of Performing Arts Professionals (APAP), Coalition of Performing Arts Centers, and National Independent Talent Organization (NITO) have joined together to research, create and present “Safe In Sound,” a free reopening checklist for the live entertainment industry. This toolkit was developed after consultation with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and based on the most up-to-date guidance and resources available at Guidance for COVID-19 | CDC. It serves as the framework for venues and promoters to reopen fully as safely as possible.

The principles and considerations outlined in the following publication were compiled from attractions operators around the world in consultation with an epidemiologist. They are designed to provide approaches for you to consider as you reopen your attraction in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Not all of these considerations will apply to your operation or facility type; however, the information outlined is intended to help you develop or review the plan that will work best for your attraction. The considerations are aimed to focus on medical science and operational expertise rather than general perceptions. You may need to adjust your approach from what is outlined here to address cultural concerns or government guidance, or you may need to take additional measures based solely on what is needed to gain consumer confidence in your market.
