~Winning Artwork to be Featured in U.S. Capitol for One Year ~

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Al Lawson (FL-05) is now accepting submissions for the 2020 Congressional Art Competition. This annual art contest, held by members of the U.S. House of Representatives, highlights the creative talents of students in each of the congressional districts.

“I am excited to once again host the Congressional Art Competition for students in Florida’s 5th District,” Rep. Lawson said. “The artwork our students create showcases their remarkable potential. I've had the pleasure of viewing such creative work over the last few years, and can’t wait to see what this year’s entries have to offer.”

The competition is open to students in grades 7-12. Winners from each congressional district will receive two tickets to fly to Washington, D.C., to attend a congressional reception and see the unveiling of their artwork in the U.S. Capitol. The artwork will remain on display in the U.S. Capitol for one year, where it may be viewed by the millions of visitors. The winning artwork will also be featured on the U.S. House’s Congressional Art Competition webpage.

Rickards High School student Malachi Richard created last year’s winning art piece, “Me and My Mask.”

Artwork and application materials are due to Rep. Lawson’s district office by Friday, April 24. To enter, students must e-mail a high-resolution photograph of the submission and the completed Student Information and Release Form to Ciera.Smith@mail.house.gov. Winners will be announced in the spring.
