Calling all singers for an incredible community project!
Please consider joining the chorus of the "Requiem of Defiance." The “Requiem of Defiance” will tell the story of the historic performances of Verdi’s Requiem at Terezín concentration camp by Jewish prisoners during 1943 and 1944, the last of which was for the American Red Cross when it came to examine the camp.
Through narration, images, and a performance of the Requiem in its entirety, this project will demonstrate how prisoners, under the guidance of fellow prisoner Rafael Schächter learned Verdi’s powerful score by rote and sang as an act of defiance towards their Nazi captors.
This special community project is being jointly produced by the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, the Holocaust Education Resource Center, Temple Israel and the FAMU Concert Choir.
