This position serves as the Interpretive Products Designer and Project Coordinator for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Public Access Services Office. The Incumbent designs and edits interpretive materials and wayfinding signage, manages the production process and keeps organized records.

 

Specific duties include:

 

Graphic Design – 50%

Selects, prepares, creates, reviews and completes free-hand or computer assisted artwork, graphics and typography using Adobe Creative Suite. Reviews and edits map designs provided by cartographer in Adobe Illustrator, conforming to cartographic standards. Designs publications, interpretive panels, and other public information products. Maintains updated design and cartography standards for appropriate, graphically pleasing and accessible public communications.

 

Production Management – 30%

Tracks the interpretive product production process, ensures timely product completion from concept to

graphic design to printer to delivery and installation where needed. Obtains quotes, coordinates with

business manager to ensure timely issuance of purchase orders and processing of invoices. Updates and maintains a database of interpretive products including type, dimensions, cost, production date and vendor. Organizes and maintains electronic records such as print or fabrication production

specifications, contracts and photo releases.

 

Photo Management – 15%

Assists in selecting appropriate photos for use in interpretive products. Helps manage photo database using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Secures and stores photo and model releases.

 

Other Duties – 5%

Attends staff meetings, participates in professional development courses as appropriate. Responds to telephone and mail inquires. Occasional participation in agency outreach events. Travel with overnight stays may be required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  1. Ability to analyze needs and product requirements to create a design
  2. Knowledge of publication production and print process
  3. Ability to evaluate high quality photography for use on web, print and sign products
  4. Highly organized, able to manage multiple projects, has strong attention to detail
  5. Self-directed and able to work as an effective team member
  6. Ability to travel for short overnight trips of 1-2 nights.
  7. Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite
  8. Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator and InDesign
  9. Knowledge of ArcGIS mapping software such as ArcPro preferred

 

County: Leon, Statewide (Position is eligible for full-time work from home)

Working hours: Flexible. Core hours are 10am-4pm M-F

Level of Education- Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in communications, English or art and one year of experience in editing and publishing materials.
  • Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
