"Poems on Panes" is a community building initiative that engages local writers and business owners along with readers in discovering poetry in public places. The project will feature the work of local poets in street-visible locations in an effort to bring poetry to a wider audience. Selected poems will be printed onto window clings and publicly displayed on storefronts of downtown Tallahassee businesses.

The theme for this project is "Tallahassee Proud" and we're looking for metaphorically rich poems with vivid imagery. Using a wide variety of poetry forms, writers from around the area are invited to show how Tallahassee inspires their civic pride. The goal is to showcase the best of who we are and how we live, work, learn and play in our community. Wit and humor are welcome. Good storytelling is appreciated, and good rhythm is nice, too. However, overt political stuff is not our thing and the content should appeal to a diverse audience.

All selected poets will receive a small honorarium for their work. There is no entry fee.

Click here for all the details. Deadline for application is Nov. 30, 2019 at 11:59 pm so don’t miss your chance to participate!

The "Poems on Panes" project is presented by COCA in collaboration with the Downtown Improvement Authority. It will run from Jan. 29 - April 13, 2020, in conjunction with a fine art exhibit at the City Hall Art Gallery titled "Tallahassee Proud." The exhibition will be curated by COCA on behalf of the City of Tallahassee as part of the Art in Public Places program.
