What: Workshop on changes to overtime rules

Presenter: Linda Bond Edwards, Attorney at Law, Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell

When: Thursday, June 23, 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Where:  James Moore & Co. 2nd Floor Training Room, 2477 Tim Gamble Place

This workshop will provide non-profit organizations with an overview of the Fair Labor Standards  Act.  After attending the workshop, managers will be able to:


  • Understand who is covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act
  • Determine what positions are subject to overtime provisions
  • Review current exemptions to ensure compliance
  • Develop strategies to implement the changes


The workshop will answer the following questions and many more:


  1. Can I pay all of my employees a salary?
  2. What should I do if my employees want to volunteer with my organization?
  3. Can I provide employees compensatory time when they work overtime?
  4. Why can’t I just classify all of my employees as independent contractors?





Linda Bond Edwards devotes her litigation practice to the representation of employers in the private and public sectors in matters involving employment and labor issues. As a county and circuit court mediator certified by the Florida Supreme Court, she also assists parties in resolving their disputes through use of the mediation process. Ms. Edwards also arbitrates employment and commercial disputes privately and through the American Arbitration Association.


As a former corporate director of human resources, Ms. Edwards brings to her legal practice the pragmatic and real world experiences arising from the employer-employee relationship. Practicing in the area of labor and employment law for more than twenty years, she represents public and private employers including but not limited to health care, law enforcement, municipal government and benefits management in the diverse issues attendant to employment. Ms. Edwards consults with and advises clients on employment matters including hiring, retention and termination practices and organizational culture and diversity.


Consultation, training and education on issues such as discrimination and harassment are part of her practice. She routinely develops, prepares and presents training and educational seminars for clients and others in the public and private sectors including law enforcement, diversity and public records law.
