2018 Open Mic Contest

- Open to all Leon County middle or high school students.
- Each student may submit one entry per category in up to three of the following categories:
- Poetry
- Prose — 500 word maximum
- Music (vocal or instrumental) — 5 minute maximum
- Rap — 5 minute maximum
- A single selection (one poem, one piece of prose, one song) constitutes an entry.
- The work should address the topic of gun violence, whether it be a personal experience with gun violence, a reaction to gun violence in the community, the news, or the world; or hopes for change related to gun violence in our country.
- Students may submit entries to an English teacher at their school for consideration and feedback before submitting their entry to the contest.
- Students must keep copies of entries as they will not be returned.
- Each entry must include the student’s name, school, grade, and contact information (phone number and email)
- Students must submit an Open Mic Contest Entry Form with each entry. Entries should be typed and emailed with the completed form to wearorangetally@gmail.com
- To be eligible for prizes, students must submit their entries no later than May 27 and present their work at the June 2nd event.
