2018 Open Mic Contest

  1. Open to all Leon County middle or high school students.
  2. Each student may submit one entry per category in up to three of the following categories:
  • Poetry
  • Prose — 500 word maximum
  • Music (vocal or instrumental) — 5 minute maximum
  • Rap — 5 minute maximum
  1. A single selection (one poem, one piece of prose, one song) constitutes an entry.
  2. The work should address the topic of gun violence, whether it be a personal experience with gun violence, a reaction to gun violence in the community, the news, or the world; or hopes for change related to gun violence in our country.
  3. Students may submit entries to an English teacher at their school for consideration and feedback before submitting their entry to the contest.
  4. Students must keep copies of entries as they will not be returned.
  5. Each entry must include the student’s name, school, grade, and contact information (phone number and email)
  6. Students must submit an Open Mic Contest Entry Form with each entry. Entries should be typed and emailed with the completed form to wearorangetally@gmail.com
  7. To be eligible for prizes, students must submit their entries no later than May 27 and present their work at the June 2nd event.
