The Museum of Florida History is seeking to fill two twenty-hour per week OPS museum educator positions. The museum educator will give tours and programs to student and adult groups, staff the welcome desk, and help create and implement Museum programming. The Museum position will also help maintain daily visitor statistics, prepare weekend reports, and answer public inquiries. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in education, museum studies, social studies, history, anthropology, or related field and a flexible work schedule with availability to work weekends on a regular basis. JOB DESCRIPTION

Work hours:                                       up to 20 hrs/week

Salary:                                                 $ 12.50/hr

Duties:

  • Give introductions, tours, and programs to student and adult groups
  • Staff the Welcome Desk as needed
  • Conduct opening and closing procedures
  • Work with education and visitor databases, including FileMakerPro for scheduling
  • Maintain daily visitor statistics, weekend, special event, and other requested reports
  • Help create and implement Museum programming
  • Staff evening functions at the Museum of Florida History as needed
  • Help in the distribution of bulk mailings, this includes promotional materials for programming and student packets
  • Enforce Museum policies (such as no food or drink in the exhibits)
  • Other office and educational duties as director by supervisor

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree; preferred subjects are education, museum studies, social studies, history, anthropology, or related fields
  • Must pass level 2 background screening
  • Competency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet, and other technology based systems including FileMakerPro
  • Must be available work weekends on a regular basis and provide staffing for Museum of Florida History as needed
  • Friendly and team player
  • Willing to learn Museum of Florida History visitor service and operational procedures
  • Experience working and interacting with people, including diverse audiences
  • Physically able to conduct tours and programs within the Museum
