Mission San Luis

Museum Education Program Specialist: OPS/40-hour per week

Programming, Audience Engagement, and Family Programming Assistant

Pay Rate: $12.50-$13.50/hour

 

Primary Job Description:

Assist in informing the public of the history of Mission San Luis through tours and programs suitable for people of all ages and abilities, etc. Other duties as required.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists with research, planning, and logistical needs and working Mission San Luis’:

  • Special Events: Large annual museum programming events.
  • Family programming/Public programming: Smaller annual and/or monthly events onsite and offsite including scout badge program, summer lunch program, etc.
  • Museum Site Coverage: Acts as tour docent and provides front desk coverage.
  • Outreach Events: Researches new outreach opportunities, assisting in outreach planning and preparation, as well as attending outreaches as necessary.
  • Workshops: Assists with workshop logistics and development.
  • Department Logistics: Updates on all areas of responsibility to the Manager of Programming and Audience Engagement and Museum Programs Supervisor.

 

KSAs:

  • Knowledge of American history, museum terminology, research, and programs.
  • Ability to research and communicate effectively, in written and oral presentations, comfortable with public speaking, and able to give tours to large groups.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to market and promote museum education programs and events.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs for research, planning, and reports.
  • Regular schedule: Tuesdays-Saturdays, 8:30am-5:00pm. This 40 hour work week may require earlier arrival times or a longer work day based on site needs. Must be flexible and able to work some Sundays, evenings, and holidays, as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completed or pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in history, humanities, anthropology, museum studies, education, public history, American studies or a related field.
  • At least six months of experience in museum education; a Bachelor’s degree may substitute six months of the required experience.

 

This position is classified OPS (Other Personnel Services).  Applicants being considered for employment will be required to pass a Level 2 Criminal Background screening. Full-time OPS personnel may be eligible for enrollment in the State of Florida employee insurance program, and may be required to participate in a Social Security alternative plan. Relatives of current Florida Department of State employees will not be considered.
