Love ‘em or hate’em, masks have become a very real part & symbol of our current struggle with the Covid 19 pandemic. Here at LeMoyne, we’ve decided to turn the whole idea of required mask wearing into a festive celebration of masks & mask making artistry!
Throughout human history, in times of joy & grief, holidays & seasons, prayer & plague, we have created & employed masks to celebrate harvests, honor &/or mimic the gods, enchant children, entice loved ones & ward off evil.
This September, We’re going to do a little of all with our special exhibit, “Le Masque at LeMoyne”
We’re looking for all mask-makers – ceramic, glass, plaster, fabric, papier-mâché or wooden, as well as artistic creations celebrating the art of disguise & costuming. We’d also love to include masks of cultural heritage or spiritual or dance inspired origins.
DEADLINE for submitting entries is Friday, September 4th. Please send entries and filled out artist application to email@example.com. ACCEPTANCE EMAILS will be sent September 11th. DROP-OFF and INVENTORY due date is September 14th. PICK-UP for artwork is November 2nd and 3rd. The exhibit will run from September 29th through October 31st culminating with a special Halloween evening “masked” & costumed soirée at the gallery.
The exhibit will also be expanded to include evenings of seasonal storytelling events & art mask making workshops.
